REMINDER: MOOC on Advanced Power Searching with Google starts tomorrow!

If you're a regular reader of this blog, you'll probably enjoy the MOOC that I'll be running beginning tomorrow, Jan 23, 2013.

It's the "Advanced Power Searching With GoogleMassive Open Online Course (MOOC).  This class will cover some of the advanced research methods that we discuss in the blog every week.

Sign up now and join in the fun.  Note that this is an ADVANCED course, so we're assuming that you've already got a good grasp of the basics covered in our first MOOC.

It should be a good deal of fun.  Sign up!

As an example, here's a sample challenge... Can you solve this? If  you can, you're probably ready to take the class!

Search on!

  2. Nice little challenge indeed. It took me very little with the help of both Google Search [golden gate engineer] and Google Patent Search [traffic joseph strauss] to arrive at patent 1967380 with both images and description.

It took me 10 minutes more to quit searching for any photo of an actual working overhead crossing signal. I'd love to see one.

On the other hand, while searching for it, I found a very interesting contemporary version of its "curtain of light", in the form of a laser "virtual wall" (concept designed by Hanyoung Lee: http://www.leehanyoung.com/works.html

  4. OK, I think I've found the answer to this one too, just after completing the excellent PowerSearch course, that I took at breakneck speed to get ready for this brand-new AdvancedSearch course.
2:07 PM here in Belgium at this moment - at what time does the live online course start exactly ?

Is there any way to still do the "exam" for the PowerSearch course, and get a certificate ? Always comes in handy to slip into job interview conversations ! (:-)))

  5. After "Power Searching" course it was easy to find the answer. I think it is Patent USD87**8.
My first step was [golden gate bridge engineer statue] in images.google.com - I've got the name of engineer. I searched in images to be sure that statue on the video is exactly the same.
Second step in 'More Tools->Patents': [name_from_first_step ;) traffic control device] - I've got the name and the number of patent

  6. Well, I hope the answer will be published -- we've gone ahead to giving the answer for "stone circles" already, while this remains officially unanswered...

In any event, I got a different answer than either of the two suggested so far. Searching [ traffic], I found Patent US1981206.

Hmm, your find certainly has the most inspiring drawing Sergey! But like anyone else, I'll believe *I'm* right for now.
